# Florida’s New Drowning Prevention Law

As someone who lives on the water, this one hits close to home.

What Changed The state's Swimming Lesson Voucher Program ([SB 428](https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2026/428)) just got a lot bigger:

> Kids up to age 7 now qualify (it used to stop at 4).
> New parents receive water safety information right after birth

Simple changes. Huge impact.

**Why It Matters Drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death for young children in Florida.**

We know swim lessons work — research shows they can cut drowning risk by nearly *90%* for little ones.

This law helps more families actually access them, especially those who couldn't afford lessons before.

That's worth getting excited about.

Where to Start If you want to find lessons near you — or help a family who needs them — [EveryChildASwimmer.org](https://EveryChildASwimmer.org) is the place to go.

They connect families with providers and make the whole process easy.

Florida got this one right. Now let's make sure people know it's available. 💙
